COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina standout sophomore goalkeeper Brad Guzan capped his outstanding summer with the Chicago Fire Reserves by being selected to the Premier Development League’s 11-man All-League team on Monday.

Guzan, a native of Lockport, Ill., was stellar throughout the summer, establishing himself as the league’s top net minder in 2004, leading the league lead in a number of statistical categories. Behind the play of Guzan, the Fire Reserves finished the regular season with a 17-0-1 record, becoming just the fourth undefeated team in PDL history.

For the year, Guzan finished with a league-best .388 goals against average in 13 matches, allowing just five goals in posting 13 victories and eight shutouts, all tops in the PDL. For his efforts, Guzan was also named to the PDL’s All-Central Conference team and was the PDL player of the week for May 26. He began the year by recording five-straight clean slates.

An All-South Region selection and Gamecock team MVP as a rookie in 2003, Guzan will be counted on for continued excellence between the pipes for South Carolina this year. The Gamecocks open the 2004 campaign with an exhibition match against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia, on August 26 at 7 p.m.
