South Carolina women’s golfer Jenna Pearson faces Australia’s Nikki Garrett in match play at the 104th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa., at 1:11 p.m. today.
Pearson posted a two-day score of 153 to finish in a tie for 39th during stroke play at the U.S. Amateur last weekend.
A sophomore-to-be at Carolina, Pearson carded a five-over 77 in the first round and came back with a four-over 76 in the second round to finish a combined nine strokes over par for the tournament. Garrett finished stroke play in a tie for 16th with a two-day score of 150.
The winner of today’s match faces the winner of the match between Spain’s Tania Elosegui and Bridget Dwyer of Kailua, Hawaii tomorrow at 9:14 a.m. Also competing in the same half of the bracket is golf superstar Michelle Wie, who Pearson faced head-to-head in the quarterfinal round of match play at the USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in June, with Wie claiming a 5-and-4 victory.
