The University of South Carolina-affiliated Olympic athletes were projected to win 10 medals by USA Today (August 2)and 10 medals as projected in the August 2 issue of Sports Illustrated in the same events (different places). Remember – these were just projections..They were based on world rankings,competition results and input from national and international governing bodies of Olympic sports and other insiders for medal projections.
