CARSON, Calif. – University of South Carolina sophomore soccer player Makan Hislop (Tobago, West Indies) is representing his home country of Trinidad & Tobago as a member of the Under-20 national team this week as it competes in the CONCACAF qualifier for a spot in the 2005 World Youth Championships. Trinidad & Tobago opens play against the United States on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. (PT) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Hislop, a defender, is expected to wear the captain’s armband in tonight’s opening match.

Along with the Trinidad & Tobago and the United States, Panama and Costa Rica are battling it out for two spots at the FIFA World Youth Championships, held this summer, June 10-July 2, in the Netherlands.

Action continues on Friday, Jan. 14, as Trinidad and Tobago meets Costa Rica at 5:30 p.m. (PT). T&T will face Panama on Sunday, Jan. 16, at Noon (PT). All matches will be played at the Home Depot Center.

Hislop, originally from Tobago, West Indies, where he attended Signal Hill Secondary School, is a two-year starter on defense for the Gamecocks. He has scored two goals in his career and helped USC to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in school history this past season.
