Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s and women’s track and field will host the USC Invitational Saturday, February 19th for their first home meet of the season. The competition will be held at USC’s indoor facility starting at 9:30 a.m.
Schools participating in Saturday’s meet include Charlotte Country Day School, Claflin University, Clayton State University, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, Morris College, Savannah State University, UNC Pembroke, Voorhees College and Wofford College.
The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. with field events, while action on the track will kick-off with the women’s 55m preliminaries at 12 noon, followed by the men’s at 12:30 p.m.
MEN TO WATCH:
-Rodney Martin competed against professional runners last weekend in the Tyson Invitational 200m in Fayetteville, Ark. Finishing third in the meet with a personal best and USC indoor record of 20.67, Martin is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation in the 200m.
-Freshman Keith Hinnant had an outstanding college 400m performance in Arkansas last weekend, earning fourth place in the event with an NCAA qualifying time of 47.33.
-Jason Richardson, 2004 High School All-American and National Gatorade Athlete of the Year, continues to have a great start to his collegiate career. Richardson is ranked in the nation’s top-12 in the 60m hurdles and joins Aaron Luster and freshmen Keith Hinnant and Jamil James for the Gamecock 4x400m relay team that is currently ranked in the nation’s top-12.
