Athens, Ga. – – With Friday’s day one action complete at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic played at the par-72 University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., the South Carolina women’s golf team is in 11th place out of 18 teams with a first-round 313. A total of nine of the nation’s top 21 teams are competing in the tournament.

Leading the way for the Gamecocks in a field loaded with several of the top individual players in the nation is freshman Caroline Rominger, who sits in a tie for eighth place on the individual leader board, two strokes off the lead with a first-round 74. Rominger got out to an excellent start, carding a two-under-par 34 on the front nine. Things weren’t as smooth on the back nine, as Rominger carded a four-over 40.

Senior Tiffany Catafygiotu is in 28th with a 77, with junior Erica Battle and sophomore Jenna Pearson tied for 62nd with a first-round 81. Freshman Blyte Worley rounded out the Gamecocks’ effort with a 12-over 84.

Round two action resumes Saturday.
