Gainesville, Fla. – Adam Davis went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI as 11th ranked Florida evened its series with sixth ranked South Carolina in a 7-3 win over the Gamecocks on Saturday evening at McKethan Stadium. Saturday’s game was played following a three hour and 31 minute rain delay. Tommy Boss picked up his fourth win of the season with Zac McCamie losing his first career game at Carolina. McCamie is now 5-1 on the year and 12-1 in his career at USC.

The Gators are now 18-7 on the year and 2-3 in the SEC while the loss drops Carolina to 19-4 and 2-3 as well in the conference.

Boss worked five 1/3 innings to improve to 4-1 on the year. The senior right-hander allowed two runs, one earned on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks allowed. McCamie went five 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, three earned on six hits with nine strikeouts and four walks, both season-highs for McCamie.

The Gamecocks struck first with a run in the top of the third inning. Chris Brown extended his hitting streak to six games with a one-out single and advanced to third base on a base hit from Steve Pearce. Brown would score the first run on a sacrifice fly by Jon Willard. Florida would tie the game in the bottom half with an unearned run off McCamie. Steven Tolleson fielded a two-out grounder by Adam Davis but threw high of first base allowing Davis to reach and Gavin Dickey to score. McCamie got himself out of a bases loaded jam in the inning coaxing Matt LaPorta into a line drive out to left fielder Davy Gregg preserving the 1-1 score.

The Gators would take their first lead of the game in the fourth inning though with three runs off McCamie. Justin Tordi collected a one-out single and advanced to third base on a two-out single from Brandon McArthur. McCamie walked Jeff Corsaletti to load the bases and allowed a bases loaded walk to Stephen Barton giving the Gators a one-run cushion. Florida went ahead 4-1 on a double from Adam Davis to right center. Davis’ double just went out of the glove of a charging Brendan Winn to score McArthur and Corsaletti.

USC would creep to within one run in the sixth inning taking advantage of two Gator fielding errors. Willard led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a throwing error by first baseman Matt LaPorta trying to complete a force out at second. Willard would score on the next play as a sharp hit grounder by Brendan Winn went through the legs of third Brandon McArthur. Tommy King would score the third Gamecock run on a pinch hitter Ryan Mahoney’s one-out sacrifice fly to left field.

The Gators broke open the game in the eighth inning with three runs off USC reliever Brent Marsh. Davis his third RBI of the day with a single and would also score on a passed ball by Ian Paxton in the eighth inning.

South Carolina and Florida complete the three-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1 p.m. Carolina will send senior RHP Jason Fletcher to the mound with Florida countering with junior RHP Alan Horne.
