Gainesville, Fla. – Due to inclement weather, the final day of competition at the Florida Relays was cancelled in Gainesville, Fla.
However, rainy weather did not stop the Gamecocks from excelling in Friday’s events. The women’s 4x200m relay, consisting of Shevon Stoddart,Erica Whipple, Khalilah Carpenter and Shalonda Solomon finished second with a time of 1:32.62. Finishing first was Tennessee with a time of 1:31.83 and Miami came in third with a time of 1:32.96. The Gamecocks also finished second in both the men’s and women’s 1600m sprint medleys. The women, consisting of Stephanie Smith, Amberly Nesbitt, Tiffany Ross-Williams and LaShay Shelton, ran 3:46.44. Jason Richardson, Leroy Dixon, Keith Hinnant and William Emase ran 3:19.15 for the men’s second place finish.
In the field, Greig Cryer jumped 24’10 3/4 to tie for first place with Julien Williams, of Michigan State, in the long jump, while Chelsea Hammond, who returned from an indoor injury, to tie for second with teammate Kemesha Whitmire with a leap of 24’10.
The Gamecocks will be back in action next weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Results will be available following the meet.
