Columbia, S.C. – After severe weather cancelled last week’s competition at the Florida Relays, the Gamecock men’s and women’s track and field teams will make their way to Georgia Tech’s Yellow Jacket Invitational to be held in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, April 2.
The Gamecocks, who had a successful conclusion of the indoor season and only one completed competition during the outdoor season, are itching to get on the track and show their abilities outdoors.
“Our athletes are really looking forward to getting a chance to compete this weekend at Georgia Tech, especially after the bad weather last weekend at the Florida Relays,” said USC Head Coach Curtis Frye. “There will be some great programs from the southeast competing in this meet, including Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee from the SEC. So, it’s going to be a great competition. We hope the weather cooperates and allows us to compete.”
Also competing in this weekend’s meet are state-rival Clemson (M), Florida State (M/W), Georgetown (M/W), Georgia State (M/W), Georgia Tech (M/W), Mercer (M/W), Michigan (M), Middle Tennessee State, (M/W) Tulane (W) and Wake Forest (M/W). Both the men and women from SEC’s Auburn, Georgia and Kentucky will compete, while only the men from Tennessee will be in attendance.
Saturday’s competition will kickoff with field events at 8 a.m. and running events 1:00 p.m. The meet is scheduled to conclude at 6:00 p.m. with the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays. Results will be available following the meet on www.uscsports.com.
