Knoxville, Tenn. – South Carolina throwers kicked off Gamecock action at the 33rd Gatorade Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. on Friday. USC track and field athletes are teaming up with Kentucky and Tennessee to take on Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin of the Big Ten for a conference-to-conference match-up.
Friday’s schedule only consisted of three events, starting with the women’s hammer throw. Sophomore Precious Akins threw for the Gamecocks, finishing eighth with a distance of 162’4. In the men’s hammer throw, Tyler Trout led the Gamecocks with a distance of 166’11 for 11th place. Also competing on Friday night was the women’s javelin, of which Chelsea Kaczmarek threw 101’5 for a ninth place finish.
Saturday’s events are scheduled to begin with the men’s and women’s long jump at 1:30 p.m., followed by the running events kicking off with the women’s steeplechase at 2 p.m. The meet will conclude with the men’s 4x400m relay at 6 p.m.
