DALLAS – University of South Carolina men’s soccer player Ryan Leeton was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Leeton, a junior defender for USC, becomes the second Gamecock player to win the league’s weekly defensive award.

Leeton and the South Carolina defense held the conference’s top two offensive teams to just three goals in a 2-2 tie at Memphis (Oct. 7) and a 2-1 victory at UAB (Oct. 9). The Midland, Texas, native also scored his first career goal in the Memphis match on a penalty kick. The Gamecocks are on a six-match undefeated streak and are currently tied for second in the Conference USA standings.

Leeton missed the majority of last season with an injury, but has started all 11 matches this season and 31 of the 34 he has played in during his South Carolina career.

Memphis senior Andy Metcalf won the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week award. Metcalf scored three goals and added an assist for seven points this weekend as his Tigers registered a 1-0-1 mark in conference play.

Gamecock senior defender Greg Reece was the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26.

South Carolina returns home for the first time since Sept. 21 this weekend. The Gamecocks host a pair of Conference USA opponents beginning on Friday, Oct. 14, when the Kentucky Wildcats (4-4-4, 1-2-1 C-USA) come to Columbia for a 7 p.m. match. The Gamecocks will take on Marshall (3-7-1, 1-2-1 C-USA) on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Stone Stadium.
