JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – With 18 holes left to play, the South Carolina men’s golf team is the leader on Saturday at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, played at The Ridges Golf and Country Club (Par 72, 7,147 yards) in Jonesborough, Tenn. Competing in his first collegiate event, Gamecock freshman Florian Fritsch (Wiesloch, Germany) is in second place on the individual leader board. Senior Eirik Johansen is one stroke back in a tie for third.

South Carolina shot a team score of 286 on the first 18 holes, and followed up with a 284 in the second round to claim a four-stroke advantage on second-place North Carolina. The Gamecocks are four-under heading into Sunday’s final round.

Fritsch finished with a one-under par in the first round and came back to shoot a four-under 68 in the second round. The 68 tied for the best round of the day. Fristch is two strokes back of the leader, tournament host East Tennessee State’s Rhys Davies (68-69=137, – 7)

Johansen shot a three-under 69 in the first round and fired a 71 in round two. At one under, he is tied for third with TCU’s Drew Laning and North Carolina’s Robert Riesen.

Sophomore Mark Anderson (Beaufort, S.C.) sits tied for 13th after rounds of 72 and 73.

Redshirt freshman Patrick Cunning (Aiken, S.C.) carded a 74 and a 75. Freshman Baker Elmore (Cheraw, S.C.) shot 79 in the opening round, but rallied for an even-par 72 on the final 18 of the day.

The Gamecocks lead four other SEC teams competing in the event. Auburn is in sixth, Tennessee and Alabama are tied for eighth and LSU sits tied for 14th in the 15-team field.

The final round of The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate is set for Sunday and South Carolina will tee of at 10:30 a.m. ET. Follow the action live at www.golfstat.com.
