Destin, Fla. – – The South Carolina women’s golf team leads the field with an 18-over-par 297 after Friday’s first round of the Chrysler Challenge played at the Raven Course in Destin, Fla. The Gamecocks hold a four-stroke lead over second-place Alabama.

Junior Jenna Pearson sits alone atop the individual leader board with a two-under-par 70, with teammate Laura Raffo tied for fifth with a one-over 73. Senior Erica Battle also ranks in the top 10 with a two-over 74, while Whitney Simons is also in the mix, carding a three-over 75. Senior

Laura McCaslin finished the first round in 24th with a six-over-par 78 and sophomore Camila Mori rounded out the Carolina effort with a nine-over 81 to finish the day in 34th.

Second round action resumes tomorrow with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
