University of South Carolina sprinter Amberly Nesbitt has been selected as the Southeastern Conference female Track Runner of the Week, the league office announced today.
Nesbitt, a sophomore from Greenville, S.C., claimed the 55-meter title at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.73 seconds. She also turned in a provisional time of 23.78 seconds in the 200 meters. Nesbitt is ranked second in the country by Trackwire.com in the 60-meters and second in the 200 meters behind only teammate Shalonda Solomon. She currently holds the nation’s fastest time in the 60 and is third in the 200.
The Gamecock women are ranked first in this week’s national poll, edging Texas by one point. Six SEC schools are ranked among the nation’s top 18 squads. On the men’s side, Carolina is ranked in a tie for 15th place.
