Results

Columbia, SC – The first day of the two-day Weems Baskin Sprint Relays got off to a bang on a gorgeous Friday afternoon with USC’s relays finishing as the runner-up in four races. In addition, Derek Pressley won the men’s triple jump and Precious Akins was the runner-up in the hammer.

Action in Columbia begins tomorrow morning with the men’s shot put at 11 am (Sat., March 18). The track events also begin at 11 am with the gun for the 110m hurdles.

Pressley won the men’s triple jump with the top jump of the day of 48′ 4.

Akins finished as the runner-up in the women’s hammer with a toss of 161′ 4 and teammate Keri Groover was seventh (140′ 1).

Second place was the order of the day for Carolina’s women’s relays. The USC women were second in the 800m Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 1:44.46. They later finished as the runner-up in the 4x800m with a time of 9:36.96.

A group of former All-American Gamecocks (JasonJack) won the women’s 4×300 relay, taking the title at 2:34.92. The foursome included Alexis Joyce, Antoinette Wilks, Aleen Bailey and Lashinda Demus. The USC women’s team finished a speedy second with a time of 2:38.43.

The men’s 4x300m relay was also a runner-up, finishing with a time of 2:15.43.

Former Gamecock All-American Bert Sorin won the men’s hammer, throwing 212′ 9. Brook Antonio was fourth (first college thrower) at 178′ 5 and teammate Tyler Trout was fifth at 163′ 8.
