Carolina sprint sensation Shalonda Solomon has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Female Track Runner of the Week for her efforts at the Dr Pepper Invitational, the league office announced today. It’s the second straight week she’s won the award during the outdoor season and the fifth straight week she’s been honored by the SEC, dating back to the indoor season.
Solomon, a sophomore from Inglewood, Calif., turned in the nation’s second fastest time this season in the 100 meters, breaking the tape in a winning time off 11.21 seconds at the meet in Gainesville, Fla.
Solomon and the rest of the South Carolina men’s and women’s track teams will travel to Athens, Ga. this weekend for the Specs Towns Team Invitational. The Gamecocks have recorded 31 NCAA regional qualifying marks this season. Here is the complete list:
