Philadelphia, Penn. – South Carolina made the finals of two relays and will work the next two days to defend both titles with its prelim finishes in the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay at the second day of the 112th annual running of Penn Relays. The meet runs through Sat., April 29.

South Carolina won its heat and qualified in the fifth position for Friday’s final in the 4x100m relay with a time of 44.78. The relay consisted of Natasha Hastings, Amberly Nesbitt, Faraigh Giles and Shalonda Solomon.

South Carolina’s women qualified in the final position for the 4x400m relay, an event it has five of the last six years, with a time of 3:35.98. The relay consisted of Chiquita Martine, Natasha Hastings, Shay Shelton, and Faraigh Giles. The race will be run on Sat. live on NBC between 5 and 6 pm.

In finals run on Thursday, Chiquita Martin finished seventh in the 400m hurdles Thursday morning, posting a time of 59.75. She already has posted a regional qualifying time of 59.59.

Monica Bozenski finished in a tie for fifth place by jumping 5’6 in the high jump. Vica Shobe finished tied for eighth place in the pole vault, hitting 3.65m.

Precious Akins was eighth in the shot put at 47′ 7 ¾. Keri Groover was fourth in the discus, hurling it 48.27m.

Keke Clark was ninth in the long jump, hitting the board at 5.59m and Brittney James was 13th with a mark of 5.57m.
