Columbia, S.C. – Incoming freshman women’s soccer player Blakely Mattern shined in the CESA North-South Soccer Classic held last Saturday (June 17, 2006) on the campus of Furman University. The all-star classic that featured players from across the state of South Carolina included Mattern, who co-captained the North to a 7-0 victory over the South. Mattern scored one goal and tallied three assists in the victory for the North.

Mattern will be a freshman on this year’s 2006 South Carolina women’s soccer team. Mattern earned 2005-06 South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year for girls soccer and is a three-time All-State selection from JL Mann HS. She also played as a member of the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA) club team. Her teammate at CESA, Shannon Bigbie (Lexington HS) will also be a freshman this year at South Carolina. Mattern has been a member of the South Carolina ODP team since 2000 and was the top goal scorer in the state of South Carolina in 2005 when she scored 39 goals for JL Mann HS.
