COLUMBIA S.C. — Redshirt junior Grace Blakely and senior Laura Ganzer from the South Carolina women’s tennis team were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes on Monday. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA for the past academic year.

A three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Blakely finished the 2005-06 season with a 14-7 singles record and was 6-9 in doubles. Blakely is a mathematics major and has appeared on the Dean’s List three times and the President’s List twice. Additionally, she is a McNair Scholar, which is South Carolina’s most prestigious academic scholarship for out-of-state students.

Ganzer also has earned a place on the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times, and she has made the Dean’s List five of her six semesters at South Carolina while majoring in marketing and management. Injuries cut Ganzer’s season short a year ago, as she went 11-9 in singles and 10-12 in doubles.
