The South Carolina Gamecocks returned to the practice fields on Friday after enjoying a rare off day on Thursday. The squad worked out at the Bluff Road practice fields in shoulder pads and shorts for a little over two hours. Following the session, Head Coach Steve Spurrier spoke with the media:
“Not much happened today. The guys were a little sluggish after taking yesterday off. So hopefully we’ll be a little sharper tomorrow when we practice.”
On the number of young players listed on the two-deep roster: “We’ve got a new team. We’ve got a bunch of new players who are going to play. We knew that was going to happen. I think they’ll represent themselves well. That’s all we can ask is for them to play their hearts out. If we do that, we’ll have a chance, if we don’t, we’ll get beat probably. Our guys have to play well. We didn’t practice very well today.”
On the game plan for Mississippi State: “It’s a secret. We may wait until Thursday morning to put it in. We’ve been doing probably just like Mississippi State. We’ve been running plays that we hope work when we play each other. It’s as simple as that.”
On waiting for the Clearinghouse on Captain Munnerlyn: “Never too late for him. He might be as good of cover guy as we’ve got. If we hear Thursday morning, he’ll probably play Thursday night. He can still go the meetings, he just can practice with us.”
The squad will work out again on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
