The University of South Carolina men’s tennis program has announced its Spring 2007 schedule. Head coach Kent DeMars’ Gamecocks will face 11 teams that competed in the 2006 NCAA Team Championship, with seven of those contests played at home in Columbia.

After competing in the SEC Indoor Championship (Jan. 18-21), the Gamecocks begin their quest for a 14th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship on Sunday, Jan. 28, with a pair of matches in Columbia. South Carolina hosts Wofford in an intra-state match at 10 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. meeting with Troy. The Gamecocks continue a string of seven-straight matches at home against Appalachian State and Charleston Southern on Feb. 4 and Charlotte and Davidson on Feb. 10.

South Carolina plays its first match against a 2006 NCAA opponent on Wednesday, Feb. 14, when Wake Forest visits Columbia. The Gamecocks go on the road to face 2006 NCAA “Sweet Sixteen” participant North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Chapel Hill.

The Gamecocks play host to Elon and Samford for another doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 25, before facing Georgia Tech, another 2006 NCAA team, at home on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Carolina kicks off the SEC portion of its schedule Friday, March 2, at Mississippi State. The Gamecocks continue the road-trip in Oxford, Miss., against 2006 SEC Western Division Champion Ole Miss. The match against the Rebels marks the first of seven SEC opponents that competed in last season’s NCAA Championship. South Carolina returns home for a March 9 meeting with 2006 SEC Champion and NCAA finalist Georgia and a March 11 date with Tennessee. The Gamecocks take a break from conference play on March 15 when they travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV.

Carolina steps back into SEC action and begins a stretch when four of five matches are against 2006 NCAA participants. The Gamecocks host LSU (March 23) and Arkansas (March 25), before heading out on the road for contests with Auburn (March 30), Alabama (April 1) and Kentucky (April 6).

The Gamecocks are back in Columbia for a three-match homestand to close the regular season. Carolina takes on Vanderbilt April 8 and then hosts archrival Clemson on April 11. The regular season finale pits the Gamecocks against Florida on April 14. Both the Tigers and Gators reached the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

The 2007 SEC Championship will be played in Baton Rouge, La., April 19-22. The NCAA Championship opens during the weekend of May 11 on campus sites with 16 regional winners advancing to Athens, Ga., for the remainder of the championship, May 18-20.

South Carolina plays all of its home matches at the USC Indoor Fieldhouse or the Sam Daniels Tennis Facility.
