TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – South Carolina recorded a season high 10 runs on 14 hits as they defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 10-3 Saturday morning at the FSU Sunshine State Tournament. The Gamecocks improve to 8-1 while JU falls to 2-6. Jacqueline Wetherbee hit two home runs and had four RBI while Krystle Robinson earned the victory and improved to 2-1. USC is now 2-1 at the tournament and will close out the event Saturday afternoon when they take on No. 22 FSU at 1:30 p.m. South Carolina recorded a season high 10 runs on 14 hits as they defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 10-3 Saturday morning at the FSU Sunshine State Tournament. Eight Gamecocks recorded hits, including two home runs and three doubles, while six batters had multi-hit games. Melissa Hendon went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI, while Ashton Payne, McKenna Hughes and Wetherbee scored two runs apiece.

In five innings pitched, Robinson held the Dolphins to three runs on five hits en route to her second victory. The Dolphins used three pitchers to try and contain the Gamecocks. Starter Shannon Jensen (0-3) lasted 0.2 of an inning, followed by Ashley Iveson who pitched 2.1 innings. Brittany Abbott closed out the game for the Dolphins and gave up two runs on seven hits. Jensen gave up five runs on three hits and walked five, while Iveson allowed three runs on four hits.

South Carolina jumped ahead early as they scored five runs in the first to take a 5-0 lead over the Dolphins. Jessica Josker hit her third double of the season to drive in two runs and put the Gamecocks on the board, 2-0. With two runners still on base, Wetherbee then blasted a home run to centerfield to clear the bases and tacked on three more runs for USC.

South Carolina added on another run to go 6-1 in the third when Hughes tripled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on an RBI double by Lindsay Walker.

Wetherbee hit her second home run of the game, a solo shot to lead off the fourth, and put the Gamecocks up 7-1. Hendon made it 8-1 when she hit a two-out RBI single to score Payne, who bunt singled to reach base earlier in the inning.

Jacksonville scored two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to five, 8-3 after Valerie Alter and Jillian Mirante each drove in a run.

USC posted two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Hughes and an RBI-single by Hendon to go up 10-3.

Kate Pouliot entered the game in the sixth to relieve Robinson and pitched two innings for the Gamecocks. Pouliot retired the batters in order with two strikeouts, two groundouts and a pop fly.
