Bryan, Texas – The No. 25 South Carolina women’s golf team is ninth after Friday’s first round at the “Mo”Morial Invitational played at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas with a 32-over-par 320. Arizona State leads the field with a 15-over-par 303. Jenna Pearson is the only Gamecock in the top 20, sitting in a tie for 17th with a five-over-par 77. Scores were generally higher than normal across the board, with UCLA’s Hannah Jun the only player in the field under par, finishing with a two-under 70.

Pearson was the only Gamecock with more than one birdie on the day, achieving the feat on the course’s par-three fifth hole and the par-four seventh. Blythe Worley tied with teammate Bénédicte Toumpsin for 34th on the individual leader board at eight-over-par, as the duo joined 49 other players in the field who finished their day with a score in the 80s. To put that figure into perspective, only 33 players finished with scores in the 70s.

Freshman Taylor Barrett and Camila Mori are tied for 56th on the individual leader board with an 11-over 83.
