PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — Rising senior Warren Thomas (Columbia, S.C.) won the 35th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association Sunday at True Blue Golf Plantation (6920 yards, Par 37-35–72) in Pawleys Island, S.C.

Thomas, who never trailed in the championship match, defeated 2005 champion Kellen Altman of Myrtle Beach, 4 and 2.

Thomas played solid golf on Sunday. Through 34 holes played, he was 8-under par, including 11 birdies and a conceded eagle.

The event began on Wednesday and continued Thursday with 18 holes each day. The two rounds determined 32 qualifiers for match play. Two rounds of match play (18 holes) were played Friday and Saturday before Sunday’s final 36 holes.

Thomas and the South Carolina golf team won the 2007 NCAA West Regional and went on to tie for 11th at the NCAA Championship earlier this month in Williamsburg, Va.
