South Carolina takes its second consecutive Southeastern Conference road trip, with this weekend’s travels sending the Gamecocks to Alabama and Mississippi State. The Garnet and Black are on a four-match losing streak, with all four losses coming in league play. The Crimson Tide are one of two teams in the SEC that have unblemished league records, going 4-0 in conference while holding a 7-6 mark overall. The Bulldogs are 6-7 on the year and 1-3 in conference action.

All-Time versus Alabama: The Crimson Tide hold a 17-12 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1979. Alabama has won seven of the last eight contests, including four straight at the CAVE. The Gamecocks last won at the Capstone in 2002, sweeping the Tide on Oct. 18.

All-Time versus Mississippi State: South Carolina has an 18-8 mark against the SEC Western Division Bulldogs, but last year State took both matches, including a sweep at Newell-Grissom Building on Nov. 3. The Gamecocks are looking to turn the tables on the Maroon and White, as MSU has won three of the last five encounters, dating back to 2004.

Sophomores a Bright Spot for Gamecocks: While things have not been terribly pleasant for South Carolina since starting the SEC slate, the play of sophomore outside hitters Ivana Kujundzic and Meredith Moorhead has been good. The Serbia native Kujundzic has made more kills per game since league action started, rising to 3.13 kills a game now, while her hitting percentage is nearly 60 points better against the SEC. Her digs per game have also gone up to 2.33, over half a dig more per frame. Moorhead played very well last weekend in her return from an injury suffered against Troy during the 2007 Nike Gamecock Invitational. The Charlotte, N.C., product hit .279 during the matches, better than her .231 average during the non-conference slate. She had 11 kills during the four-game loss at Mississippi on Sunday afternoon.
