Senior Rebecca Chain led the Gamecocks for the fourth consecutive time this season at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic Saturday. Chain improved her time from last week finishing the race in a time of 18:37 to finish 14th.
“Rebecca ran a good race. The rest of the team got burried at the start of the race and had to fight their way up to where they finished. They just didn’t get far enough, especially with the swamp-like conditions on the course,” Head Cross Country Coach Stan Rosenthal said.
Chain was followed by a duo of freshmen as Ashley Evens finished 22nd and Courtney Bowen finished 46th. Junior Kelsey Bristol was fourth for the Gamecocks with a 57th place finish. Junior Megan Robers finished 78th, while freshman Tara Tae followed closely finishing 80th. Sophomore Lisa McKinney rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks, finishing 82nd with a time of 20:01.
The Walt Disney Cross Country Classic hosted 44 teams with the Gamecocks finishing in sixth. Tampa claimed the team title with 91 points, while Laura Woznicki of Tampa took home the individual title finishing in a time of 17:41.
The Gamecocks will be back in action Friday, Oct. 12 as they head to State College, Penn. to compete in the Penn State Invitational. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m.
