The South Carolina cross country team is back on the road as it travels to University Park, Penn., Fri. Oct. 12 to compete in the Penn State Invitational at the Blue-White Golf Course. The women’s 6,000-meter race is scheduled to being at 10 a.m.

The Gamecocks will be up against top-ranked teams nationially including No. 17 Duke, No. 21 West Virginia and No. 30 Penn State. The Gamecocks will have their first opportunity to face an SEC opponent with Tennessee among the competition.

“It is a race very much like our NCAA meet in November. It will be even harder than SEC’s, which should help prepare the team for the SEC Championship. It is also 6,000 meters which will give us practice racing at the championship distance for the SEC and NCAA championships,” South Carolina Head Cross Country Coach Stan Rosenthal said.

Last weekend the Gamecocks finished sixth at the Walt Disney World Classic Invitational as senior Rebecca Chain led the Gamecocks for the fourth consecutive time this season finishing 14th.

The Gamecocks will take some time off before heading to the SEC Championships Sat., Oct. 27 in Lexington, Ky.
