COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Gamecocks open up the second half of Southeastern Conference play on the road against the same two teams the squad opened the league schedule with Georgia and Auburn. Friday night, Carolina rolls into Athens to face the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Student Center, while Sunday’s contest is scheduled for the Student Activities Center on the Plains at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

All-Time Versus Georgia: The series between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks has been one of streaks, with Georgia getting the better end with a 39-14 record over USC. Since the first three meetings, only twice now has a team had a streak of less than three straight wins. The first exception came in the 2000 SEC Tournament, when Georgia took a five-game victory over South Carolina. That loss was sandwiched by a three- and four-match winning skeins for the Garnet and Black. The Gamecocks swept the season series in 2006, taking both matches, 3-0, before falling in three to the Bulldogs earlier this season in Columbia

All-Time Versus Auburn: The Gamecocks hold a 16-7 record against the Tigers all-time. Auburn snapped a 14-match winning streak Carolina held that dated back to 1996 with the Tigers’ five-game win in Columbia earlier this year. The series has not been short recently, either, with every match since 2004 going to at least four games. In the last three matches, it has taken five games to find the winner.

Gamecocks Working to Buck Program Trend in Second Half: South Carolina has traditionally been a first-half team in SEC play. Head coach Ben Somera and the team are looking to change that direction starting this weekend in Georgia. Since joining the Southeastern Conference, the team has improved on its first-half league record three times and matched the previous half just twice out of the 15 years that Carolina has competed in the SEC. The last time a Gamecock team improved from one half to the next was in 2001, when the squad started conference play 4-3 and ended with a 10-4 record overall.
