COLUMBUS, Ohio – Competing in her first career NCAA Championship meet, South Carolina freshman diver Taryn Zack finished 11th in the one-meter diving competition on Thursday to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. The three-day championship is being hosted by The Ohio State University at The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. South Carolina senior swimmer Christy Williams also represented Carolina on Thursday, competing in the 200 IM.

Zack turned in a strong preliminary effort, posting a total of 278.85, just one point shy of eighth place, which would have placed her in the event finals. Zack followed with a tremendous performance in the consolation finals, finishing third in the pack and 11th overall with a mark of 294.40.

“Taryn had a great day today,” South Carolina head diving coach Todd Sherritt said. “To earn Honorable Mention All-America honors as a freshman is really outstanding.”

Williams swam in the opening preliminary heat of the 200 IM in the morning session. She turned in a time of 2:04.08, finishing 63rd in the event.

Zack will compete in the three-meter event on Friday, while Williams will swim in the 100-yard butterfly. Swimming prelims begin at 11 a.m., while diving preliminary action will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET.
