MANCHESTER, England – In his opening race at the Ninth Annual FINA Short Course World Championships, junior swimmer Nicholas Walkotten clocked a time of 51.62 in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing tied for fifth in preliminary heats to advance to the semifinal round. When converted to the NCAA standard yards, Walkotten’s mark of 46.25 ranks as his career best and the top mark in Carolina history. Converted times do not officially count as school records, however.

Walkotten, seeded fifth in the upcoming semifinal round, will compete in the second semifinal heat on Thursday.
