The South Carolina Gamecocks practiced for just over an hour Sunday afternoon in helmets and shorts one day after a full-squad scrimmage.

“We let the guys off a little early today,” said Head Coach Steve Spurrier following the session. “We had a good scrimmage yesterday and they’re sort of bruised up a little bit. Darian Stewart I guess was the only half-way serious injury. He sort of had a bad bruise on the bottom of his (left) foot. Hopefully he’ll be back in a couple of days or so. Jarriel King was out here moving around a little bit better today. We hope to get him in the scrimmage Tuesday night. Jasper Brinkley was moving around a little better but he’s still not 100 percent. Sometimes those ankles take awhile.

Rodney Paulk had a good scrimmage,” continued Coach Spurrier. “Rodney was all over the place. He and Marvin Sapp and all those defensive guys did well. We thought the effort was better (in the scrimmage). Most of our guys played their assignments pretty well. We still have a few offensive linemen mess-ups, but most of them were the young guys. Hopefully we can correct some of those.”

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Monday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m. That practice is closed.
