South Carolina freshman Beatrice Biwott was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Biwott was recognized for her top-three performance at the Eye Opener Invitational.

Biwott led the Gamecocks at the Eye Opener Invitational and claimed a third-place finish among more than three hundred runners. She ran the 5000 meter race in a time of 18:30, shaving nearly 45 seconds off her time at the Gamecock Invitational. Biwott currently holds the fastest 5K time in the Southeastern Conference.

The Gamecocks will take a week off before heading to Rock Hill, S.C., on Sat., Sept. 20, to compete at the Asics Winthrop Invitational.
