The South Carolina cross country team finished 39th in the women’s 6,000-meter Blue Race at the 2008 Pre-Nationals on Saturday morning. Freshman Beatrice Biwott led the Gamecocks for the fourth straight time this season to finish 141st with a time of 22:17.
Sophomore Ashley Evens and junior Danielle Barnes remained close throughout the race finishing 221st and 224th, respectively. Freshman Elizabeth Heath was fourth for the Gamecocks finishing 243rd with a time of 23:32. Rounding off the scoring for the Gamecocks was freshman Erin Fedewa finishing 247th. Freshmen Shannon Walls and Katie Walls raced to 257th and 271st, respectively.
“It didn’t work out as well as I was hoping,” head coach Stan Rosenthal said. “We’re going to have to work really hard at the SEC Championships to improve on last year’s finish.”
Washington claimed the team title with 36 points, while Villanova finished second with 126 points. Brianna Felnagle of North Carolina took home the individual title finishing the race in a time of 20:02.
The Gamecocks are back in action Mon., Nov. 3, as they head to the SEC Championships.
