COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior guard Devan Downey has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Downey led the Gamecocks last week averaging 30.0 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game against nationally ranked No. 20 Clemson (L, 87-98) and No. 19 Baylor (W, 85-84).

He set a career high when he tallied 37 points against Clemson, the most by a Gamecock in nearly two seasons, while also swiping five steals against the Tigers.

Downey followed with an encore performance in Carolina’s 85-84 upset victory over No. 19 Baylor on Jan. 2. Downey led the Gamecocks with 23 points, eight assists and three steals in the contest. Downey scored on five layups and two jumpers in the lane during the second half to pace Carolina in the win.

The win over Baylor marked South Carolina’s first win over a ranked non-conference opponent since the 1997 season.
