COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Continuing the efforts of South Carolina Athletics to contribute to cancer research, the Gamecock softball team will hold a Strike Out Cancer weekend against Alabama in the three-game series, culminating with the 2 p.m. game on Saturday, April 11, at Beckham Field.

The Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation will have a presence, with brochures and other literature available for pick up. A silent auction will start at Friday night’s doubleheader, first pitch set for 5 p.m., and end during the fifth inning of Saturday’s contest. Items from former Gamecock standout Duce Staley, head coaches Steve Spurrier, Darrin Horn, Dawn Staley and Ray Tanner, as well as other items from men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and softball will be part of the silent auction.

The first 50 people to Saturday’s game will get a pink Livestrong wristband, and all people who donate to the cause will be allowed to pick up a ribbon. Anyone wearing pink on Saturday will pay just one dollar for admission. Pink camouflage t-shirts will also be sold. All donations and proceeds from the auction and t-shirts will go to the Komen For the Cure Foundation.

This continues the efforts of other squads who have raised cancer awareness and funds. The volleyball team has held a Dig for the Cure match the past two seasons, while women’s basketball has participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone event the last two years as well. Women’s soccer also had Think Pink event during the fall.
