COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina will try to return to its winning ways when it takes on Coastal Carolina at Beckham Field on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch for the single game is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The Gamecocks lost their last outing at Charlotte, 2-0, despite hitting three doubles in the contest. Sophomore Laura Mendes is tops among active players with a .275 batting average and .413 slugging percentage.

Coastal held a 10-20 record as of March 30, including a 1-2 mark in Big South action. Michelle Evans, who leads the team with a .345 batting average, has led the Chanticleers. Sarah Maples tops Coastal with 20 runs scored and is among three Chanticleers with 12 RBI. Coastal Carolina has 30 doubles as a team this season, helping them to a .340 slugging percentage.

The Chanticleers have had issues with their pitching, with the staff posting a 4.49 ERA. Katelin Edwards has logged the most innings and starts, but she is just 5-14 on the season with a 5.05 ERA. Ashley Frederick has a 5-6 record with a 3.94 ERA, best on the team. None of the pitchers are stikeout artists, but Edwards does lead the team with 66 in 94.1 innings. The team has committed 41 errors in their 33 games.

The Gamecocks are 41-6 all-time against the Chanticleers, including a 25-2 mark all-time in the meetings in Columbia. Last season, South Carolina got a 6-2 win in Conway.
