COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior Diego Cubas and freshman Ivan Machado open play in their first NCAA Individual Championships this week at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. Cubas earned an at-large bid to the 64-player field for NCAA Singles Championship while also teaming with Machado to capture an at-large berth in the 32-team field for the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Cubas, ranked No. 54 in the nation with a 20-15 record, opens his singles competition against Baylor’s Denes Lukacs, who is seeded fourth in the tournament, at 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Wed., May 20. The winner of the match advances to play the winner of the 2:30 p.m. (CT) match between Jay Weinacker (NC State) and Marek Michalicka (Wisconsin) on Thu., May 21.

In the NCAA Doubles Championship, the 24th-ranked Gamecock duo Cubas and Machado will square off with Texas Tech’s tandem of Raony Carvalho and Christian Rojmar, ranked No. 15, on Thu., May 21. The winner of the match will take on the winner of the match between No. 1 Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge (Mississippi) and Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz (Virginia), who are ranked No. 11, on Fri., May 22.

The title matches for both the singles and doubles events will be played on Mon., May 25. All matches will be decided by the best of three sets using regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all.
