Sept. 15, 2009

Hey Gamecock Softball fans!!! I’m senior infielder Lindsay Walker. I can’t believe I’m preparing for my senior season already. It seems like I was just moving my stuff into the dorm for my freshman year. The time has flown by! Even though I wasn’t quite ready to get back to class, I was definitely ready to come back to Columbia to get back onto Beckham Field.

I would have to say that I had the best summer that I have ever had. Normally, my trip home takes about three and a half hours, but this summer it took over 15 hours to get “home”. I was born and raised in Fayetteville, Georgia, but this summer I had a little change of scenery. After leaving Columbia at the end of the year, I set out for Atlanta to see some friends and family before heading to my family’s new home in Texas. I couldn’t have had a better summer with my family. We had a pretty regular routine of spending time at the pool and working out. I even made a pretty good friend in Texas, his name is “Gym”. I still can’t quite get used to calling Texas home, but I think that will come with time.

Right now, we are all working really hard at conditioning and in the weight room with our new strength coach. I can feel the team getting better every single day. This Friday, we have our first official practice as a team. It would be an understatement to say that I’m looking forward to it! We were all so excited when Coach told us that we have a fall game schedule. We’ve never played any fall games before, so this is big news! Our first fall game is on Sept. 25th. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but this year is going to be an exciting year.

I would like to send a special thanks to my parents for everything that they have done for me. Without you guys supporting me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. To my sister, Cortney, thank you, thank you, thank you for working out with me this summer. I also have to send a special shout out to Memaw and Pop. Two true Gamecock softball fans who you can expect to see in the stands almost anywhere we play. I really can’t thank you guys enough for all of the support!
