Coach Spurrier Garrett Anderson

The University of South Carolina football team (3-1, 1-1 SEC) worked out for about two hours Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields as they continued preparations for Saturday’s in-state matchup with South Carolina State. The Bulldogs (3-0) will come to Columbia for a 7 p.m. kick, which will be televised nationally on ESPN Classic.

The Gamecocks hope to have both of their top two quarterbacks available on Saturday. Starter Stephen Garcia injured his ribs in the win over Ole Miss, while backup Reid McCollum did not dress for the game due to illness. “Both Stephen and Reid were out here,” said head coach Steve Spurrier following Wednesday’s practice. “Reid threw it around pretty well today. Stephen is still just throwing a little bit, but he should be fine Saturday night.

“We’re trying to get better,” continued the head ball coach. “We were playing pretty sorry on offense last week so we’re trying to play better. That’s what our focus is. It doesn’t matter who we are playing – we’re going to try to play better than we did last week if we can.”

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
