COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Gamecock men’s soccer team (4-3-1, 0-0-0) travels to face Central Florida (3-3-2, 0-1-0) in its Conference USA opener for the 2009 campaign. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex in Orlando. Carolina owns a 4-0-3 upperhand in the all-time series against UCF.

Series Information
South Carolina owns a 4-0-3 upperhand in the all-time series with UCF. The team’s have tied in three of the last five meetings between the two schools, while South Carolina won the matchup in 2005 and 2006.

Scouting Central Florida
Central Florida enters weekend action with one C-USA conference game already played, a 3-2 loss at Memphis last Saturday. The Knights have wins this season over North Florida, Georgia Southern and Manhattan. UCF is currently led in points by freshman Nicholas Keown-Robson, who has three goals and three assists on the season for a total of nine points.

Gamecocks In Conference USA Play
South Carolina enters its fifth season as an affiliate member of Conference USA in 2009. In its brief four-year history in the league, Carolina owns a 17-8-8 record (.636). In its first year in the league, Carolina collected a 7-1-1 record in conference play and defeated Tulsa 1-0 to claim the 2005 C-USA Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Carolina All-Time In Conference Action
Since becoming a varsity sport, the Gamecock men’s soccer team has competed as an independent in all but six seasons. South Carolina spent the 1993 and 1994 seasons as a member of the Metro Conference, and the last four seasons in C-USA. During their time in the Metro Conference, Carolina amassed an 8-1-1 record. Combined with its C-USA mark, South Carolina owns a 25-9-9 all-time record against league competitors when a member of a conference.

Gamecocks Suffer Loss To Wolfpack
South Carolina suffered a 1-0 loss to ACC foe NC State last week in non-conference action. NC State held a 10-5 upperhand in shots in the match, but Carolina held a 4-3 advantage in shots on frame. Blake Brettschneider led the Gamecocks with two shots, while senior midfielder Jeff Scannella, junior forward Mike Lindsay and sophomore midfielder Vance Benson each contributed one. Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer collected two saves in net for Carolina.
