The University of South Carolina football team (6-2, 3-2 SEC) worked out Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields as they continue preparations for Saturday night’s clash in Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers (3-4, 1-3 SEC). Game time is set for 7:52 p.m. from Neyland Stadium and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN with Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Erin Andrews describing the action.
“I’m looking forward to seeing if our guys can play better,” said head coach Steve Spurrier following Wednesday’s practice. “That’s what I’m looking forward to doing. We haven’t played real sharply lately so hopefully we can play without penalties and play well. We’re going to need to if we’re going to have a good chance to beat them.”
The Gamecocks practiced on Wednesday without the services of starting wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. “Alshon was sick today and they sent him home. Hopefully it’s only a one-day stomach virus or something like that.”
Wide receiver Moe Brown has been cleared to play after sustaining a concussion in the Alabama game and sitting out last Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. “He practiced full go today.”
In other news, defensive tackle Travian Robertson underwent successful surgery on his right knee today, according to team physician Dr. Jeff Guy, who performed the surgery. Robertson tore his ACL against Ole Miss earlier this season.
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
