Coach Spurrier

The University of South Carolina football squad (6-3, 3-3 SEC) worked out on Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields. The squad continued its preparations for Saturday’s SEC showdown in Fayetteville against the Arkansas Razorbacks (4-4, 1-4 SEC). Game time is set for 12:21 p.m. ET and will be televised regionally on the SEC Network. It can be seen locally in Columbia on WIS-TV.

The Gamecocks will be a little shorthanded when they go to Fayetteville. Defensive end Cliff Matthews will not be available after suffering a left shoulder sprain against Tennessee. “Brad Lawing, our D-line coach, will get them ready to play,” said head coach Steve Spurrier about the defensive line, which is expected to start redshirt freshman Devin Taylor opposite of Clifton Geathers. “We’ve got Kenny Davis ready, Nathan Pepper and Melvin Ingram. So maybe one of those guys will move out to the end if need be.”

Offensive lineman Terrence Campbell remains sidelined with a neck stinger and will not make the trip to Arkansas. “He’s out for the year in all likelihood,” said Coach Spurrier. “Jarriel King is out for this game, too,” added the Head Ball Coach. King suffered a concussion in the loss at Tennessee. “We’re going to play Kyle Nunn and maybe even Garrett Chisolm at the left tackle. He’s our swing-man now.” The Gamecocks will also be without the services of defensive back Chris Culliver this week.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
