COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two Gamecocks added to their awards collection today, as juniors Jimmy Maurer and Sam Arthur both earned spots on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America listings as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Maurer made the second team, while Arthur was chosen for the third team.
Maurer tallied five clean sheets, including two scoreless draws, on the season for the Gamecocks and ended the year with a 1.22 goals against average. The third-team All-Conference USA goalkeeper has 19 career shutouts, one away from passing Warren Lipka for fifth all-time in Gamecock history. Arthur earned first-team All-C-USA accolades after leading South Carolina with eight goals and 18 points on the season. The junior is just outside the top 10 in goals and top 15 in points in the program’s annals. The duo both picked up C-USA All-Academic Team accolades as well.
Arthur was a second-team selection in 2008, putting him alongside Greg King from 1993-94 as the second Gamecock in program history to earn the honor twice.
South Carolina is one of three programs to land more than one student-athlete on this year’s list, as Drake had three and Akron posted two.
