Coach Spurrier

The University of South Carolina football team (6-5, 3-5 SEC) took its annual team photo, then worked out for about an hour Thursday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium. The team is enjoying its only bye week of the season this weekend, and will host Clemson for the Palmetto State bragging rights on Saturday, November 28. Game time is set for noon at Williams-Brice Stadium and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

“We’ve done a little bit (of game preparation for Clemson),” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “We do our normal week starting Monday, but we’ve done a little bit of preparation stuff.”

Coach Spurrier explained why freshman tailback Jarvis Giles did not see any action in last week’s game against Florida. “He’s got a pulled groin muscle right now. He hasn’t played all that super when he’s been in there, and the other guys have played a little better, simple as that. He does need to put on weight and he needs to not fall down and run backwards. It’s hard to play at 180 pounds if you have to block those linebackers. That’s one big reason why Brian Maddox played most of the game,” noted the Head Ball Coach.

The Gamecocks are scheduled to return to the Bluff Road practice fields Monday night.
