COLUMBIA, S.C. – Hey everyone, my name is Adele Voigt, and I am a senior outfielder from Dacula, Ga. Here is the 13th blog of the year, get excited!

All semester, our team has been working hard on and off the field to put our program on the right track for this upcoming season. With fall ball over and conditioning and practice winding down for the semester, we have kept busy by lending a helping hand in our community. Every year around this time, our team holds a Christmas Party where we exchange gifts with one another. However, this year we decided to do something a little different that would benefit someone other than ourselves. Through WIS Families Helping Families, our team adopted a family for Christmas. I am very proud to say that we raised almost $800 to purchase gifts to make one family’s Christmas one to remember. The family we chose to adopt was a single mom with four children, including a 7-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl. This past week, we have been busy shopping, finding each child and their mother the perfect gifts. On Friday, the whole team gathered to wrap all the gifts at our Christmas party. After our new experience this year and getting to help those less fortunate at such an important time of the year, we have all decided that this will be a new softball tradition.

As you all have heard before, the best gift you can receive is the joy of helping others and our team was able to experience this first hand this year. I hope that everyone has a great holiday season and are ready to come see the Gamecocks play after the New Year!

Oh, and this year I’m going to ask Santa to bring me a trip to the Women’s College World Series! I’ve been good, so I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get it!
