South Carolina improved to 7-12 all-time in SEC openers. The win over Auburn marked the second-straight season South Carolina has opened the league campaign with a win over the Tigers (defeated Auburn 68-56 to open SEC action on Jan. 10, 2009).

The win was South Carolina’s first road win in an SEC opener since a 95-85 victory at Tennessee to begin the league campaign on Jan. 6, 1993.

The victory was South Carolina’s fourth consecutive over Auburn at Beard-Eves Memorial Coliseum.

Senior point guard Devan Downey scored 33 points, four points shy of matching his career high. It marked Downey’s fifth-career 30-point effort and his second of the season (34 vs. Jacksonville).

South Carolina’s 11 3s in the contest matched a season high (11 vs. Miami). Downey led the way with four 3s, matching his season high (4 vs. Alabama A&M).

Junior forward Austin Steed posted 10 points, a season high, and his first double-figure effort of the season vs. Auburn.

Freshman guard Stephen Spinella tallied a season best seven points in the contest. He also collected two rebounds.
