COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer team, in conjunction with the Columbia YMCA have joined forces to sponsor the 11th Annual C.A.P.S. (Child and Parent Soccer) Clinic, to be held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Stone Stadium on the South Carolina campus. The annual event benefits Children’s Chance, an organization aiding children with cancer and their families. The clinic is open to participants ages 4-14 and will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The annual clinic is geared towards parents and children being together to learn the game of soccer from the Gamecock coaching staff and team. Children will be grouped according to age and ability, while parents are encouraged to participate and observe. Separate parental topics include rules of the game, introduction to basic skills and small group and team tactics used in the game of soccer. Members of the Carolina soccer team will also be available for autographs at the end of the event.
The cost for the clinic, which includes a free lunch and camp T-shirt, is $35 per child and $20 for each additional sibling. Those interested are encouraged to register by Feb. 5 to reserve a T-shirt. Walk-in and late registration is available, however a T-shirt is not guaranteed at that time.
Each child should bring a soccer ball, shin guards, water and appropriate practice attire. Parents should also dress appropriately to participate (soccer shoes are optional, portable lawn chair is encouraged). Feel free to bring a camera to take pictures of the event.
