COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina swimmer Michael Flach was named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league office announced late Tuesday.

Flach earned a spot on the team by virtue of being the league’s top freshman finisher in the 500-yard freestyle as he earned the bronze medal at last week’s SEC Championships in a time of 4:19.37. It was one of two individual scoring events for Flach as he took a 15th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. He posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in both of those events, in addition to the 200-yard freestyle.

The freshman from Annandale, Va., owns the nation’s fourth-fastest time in the 500 freestyle, and he was named the SEC Freshman of the Week four times during the season.
