Complete Results Get Acrobat Reader

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina won 11 events at the Gamecock Open Meet in mid-week action at the Weems Baskin Track Facility. The meet was the final home meet of the season for the ranked South Carolina squads.

After sitting out last weeks’ Pepsi Florida Relays, senior Quentin Moore won the 400m dash at 48.58. In the 800m, freshman Alex Bermudez claimed the victory at 1:57.84. Junior Matt Shuler won the pole vault at 16’0 3/4 .

Eight Gamecocks finished in the top 10 of the discus throw and four finished in the top five. Michael Zajac won at 156’6 and was followed by Jeff Merkt in second at 154’1. Andrew Finley and Louis Day rounded out the Gamecocks in the top five.

Tony Brown claimed second in the triple jump at 44’4, and Jarrett Gerald took third at 43’1 ¾. Jerry Thompson took third and Rickie Crum took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles before Crum followed with a runner-up showing in the 400m hurdles.

Vince DePiano placed second in the men’s 5000m run at 16:29.82.

Ceci Kryst won the 100m hurdles and teammate Kayla Blake took second in the event. Freshman Ashley Hunter won the 400m hurdles to give South Carolina a sweep of the hurdles at the meet. Blake later won the high jump at 5’6. Cryst also took second in the triple jump at 11.31m.

Laura Beggs earned the win in the 5000m run at 20:06.46. Jessie Hartman led a 1-2-5 finish in the women’s 1500m run, edging teammate Megan Rother at the end of the race for the victory. Emma Borowicz claimed fifth as an unattached athlete. Another unattached South Carolina athlete running was Patrice Frierson who won the 800m at 2:29.22.

Asia Delaney and Kellie Rolle took second and fourth, respectively, in both the 100m and 200m dashes.

Carolina hits the road this weekend to compete at the Spec Towns Invitational on the campus of the University of Georgia.
