GREENSBORO, N.C. – South Carolina sent a small squad to the International Friendship & Freedom Games at North Carolina A&T and recorded wins in the men’s 200m and high jump as well as the women’s 400m.

Lakya Brookins claimed third in the 100m at 11.31 and Gabrielle Glenn took fifth at 11.42. Breehana Jacobs (11.66) and Shayla Mahan (11.67) rounded out the Gamecocks placing in the top 10 of the event. Five Gamecocks finished in the top 10 in the 200m with Kelsey McCorkle leading the way with a third place finish at 23.72. Tatianna Fisher followed in fourth at 23.81 before Mahan (seventh – 23.98), Glenn (ninth – 24.00) and Jacobs (tenth – 24.10) placed seventh, ninth and tenth.

Nadonnia Rodrigues ran 53.66 to claim second overall and first among collegiates in the 400m. Porche Byrd placed fourth at 55.39. In the hurdle events, Janica Austin, Radiance Basden and Trier Young each recorded top five finishes. In the 100m hurdles, Austin ran 13.79 to take second and Young ran 14.09 to take fifth. In the 400m hurdles, Basden claimed third at :01.43 and Young claimed fourth at 1:03.29.

Four women competed in field events as Brittney James (long jump) and Radiance Basden (triple jump) both placed third in their respective events. James jumped 18’8 for her mark and Basden jumped 38’7 ½ for her event. Ceci Kryst also competed in the triple jump, and Kettiany Clarke competed in the high jump and javelin.

Obakeng Ngwigwa won the men’s 200m at 20.81, and Antonio Sales took second at 20.82. Sales also placed second in the 100m at 10.35. In the 400m, Aaron Anderson ran 47.99 to place fourth.

David Wilkins won the high jump at 6’8, and Scott Pierce came in second at 6’2. Pierce also competed in the shot put and discus throw. Lincoln Carr led the jumpers with a third place finish in the triple jump (47’11 ¾) and fifth place finish in the long jump (21’11). Aaron Searles, Jarrett Gerald and Tony Brown each competed in both events as well as all four Gamecocks earned top 10 finishes in the long jump.

South Carolina travels to the Penn Relays this week with competition beginning Wednesday.
